Locals call Fort Lauderdale the "Venice of America." It is no wonder with 23 miles of beach, blue-green waters and world-class shopping and dining on Las Olas Boulevard. Fort Lauderdale is located on the southeast coast of Florida, about 23 miles north of Miami. Showcasing a vibrant nightlife scene and catering to a younger spring break crowd during parts of the year, Fort Lauderdale has something for everyone.

Things To Do

When looking for a vacation home consider factors such as proximity to the convenient water taxis, shops, restaurants and of course the beach! Our favorite Fort Lauderdale vacation homes are near areas such as Las Olas Beach, an area that doesn't get as crowded as other South Florida beaches. Speaking of Las Olas, if shopping or art is your passion; visit architecturally interesting Las Olas Boulevard for al fresco restaurants, galleries, and museums.

A great way to get around Fort Lauderdale is the always fun open air “golf cart” taxis. Use them to get from point A to point B or just for a fun ride around to see the sites. By the end of our last trip, we were best buds with our driver Pauly who made sure we were his priority for the weekend. Of course, there is always Uber available in the area too.

A must do activity is the Fort Lauderdale pedal pub, operated by Cycle Party. Grab some friends and spend a few hours pedaling, singing and stopping off at local bars and restaurants along the way. By boat is one of the best ways to see “millionaire’s row” with some of the most expensive houses in the country; any boat will do, but we recommend a relaxing gondola ride through the canals.

Other great activities:

Stranahan House

Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale

Segway Tours

Must try restaurants/nightlife:

The Foxy Brown (must go for brunch!)

American Social

Market 17

Of course, the peak season for Fort Lauderdale is November through April when the snowbirds and spring breakers flock to the white sand beaches to enjoy the almost perfect temperatures. The summer months can be quite humid, and you should expect some afternoon showers. It should also be noted that peak months for hurricanes are August and September.
